About Ron Keates

Ronald Keates is an accomplished pianist and violinist.  After a short spell at Michaelhouse School in South Africa where he was an assistant to the director of Music, he returned to England to become a member of the Schools Quintet and peripatetic violin teacher for the London Borough of East Ham. Appointed Head of the Music Department at Hazelwick School in Crawley, Sussex, he was also the founder of the West Sussex Music Centre, which he directed  for 28 years. He ended his career as an examiner for the Guildhall School of Music in London. 

Since retiring from teaching, Ron has taken up composition, writing predominantly for the piano, but there are also pieces for other instruments and voice as well as an opera and songs  for children. The compositions range in difficulty from very simple grade 1 to advanced  level and concert works such as the 12 piano sonatas.

Ron is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in  London, where he was awarded the bronze medal.  He is also an Associate of the Royal College of Music. Now retired, he  lives in the West Country.
